Aminul questions national players' 'khep' outings

Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque has questioned the professionalism of national team footballers taking part in local ‘khep’ matches, saying their participation raises concerns about their commitment to both the country and themselves.

The issue has gained attention after national team players including Sheikh Morsalin, Faisal Ahmed and Rakib Hossain were recently seen playing ‘khep’ (for hire) matches in different parts of the country.

Speaking to reporters while watching a football match in Kalshi on Monday, the former national team goalkeeper questioned whether such appearances were compatible with their professional responsibilities.

“My question is to those players, and I will also raise it with the Bangladesh Football Federation. We are providing them sports allowances in recognition of their professional status, and the government is paying them monthly allowances. In that case, how appropriate is it for the players to go and play ‘khep’ matches?” Aminul said.

“The lack of commitment to the country that I was talking about earlier, and the lack of commitment to oneself, has already been reflected.”

However, Aminul said the government does not want to rush into disciplinary action and would initially prefer to warn the players.

“I haven’t been able to speak to the Bangladesh Football Federation president due to my busy schedule, but I will probably speak to him within the next couple of days. We want to bring the matter of those players who have gone to different places to play ‘khep’ matches to his attention and warn them initially. Then we may consider taking action,” he said.
