Warne’s telling prediction resurfaces after Rehan Ahmed’s inclusion
Shane Warne's telling prediction about the then 13-year-old Rehan Ahmed resurfaced after the prodigious leg-spinner was added to England's squad for the second Test against Australia at Lord's next week as cover for Moeen Ali who was nursing a finger injury in the first match.
The late Aussie legend, Warne -- who redefined the art of leg-spin and possessed one of the sharpest cricketing brains -- was thoroughly impressed when he first saw Ahmed.
"I will be keeping a close eye on you, I think we will be commentating on you very soon," Warne had said to Ahmed after seeing him bowling at the nets at Lord's in 2017.
Ahmed has already created waves at the international circuit, having played one Test for England when they beat Pakistan in December 2022 in Karachi -- where he became the youngest bowler in men's Test history to take a five-wicket haul on debut.
Apart from being the youngest spinner, Ahmed will also be the youngest Englishman ever in Ashes if he makes the cut in the starting line-up.
