Star Sports Report

The trophy for the upcoming white-ball series between the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team and visiting Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team was officially unveiled on Sunday at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium.

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty and Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu jointly unveiled the trophy, marking the start of the build-up to the multi-format tour.

The Sri Lanka women’s team, led by Athapaththu, arrived in Bangladesh on Friday. The visitors will take part in a three-match ODI series, which begins on April 20 at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium. The remaining two ODIs are scheduled for April 22 and 25 at the same venue.

After the ODI series, both sides will move to Sylhet for a three-match T20I series. The T20Is will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on April 28, 30, and May 2.

This tour marks Sri Lanka Women’s first bilateral series in Bangladesh. The two teams previously met in a bilateral assignment in 2023 in Sri Lanka, where the hosts won both formats—clinching the ODI series 1–0 and the T20I series 2–1.

The upcoming series also signals the beginning of a new era for Sri Lanka under head coach Jamie Siddons, who has previously worked with the Bangladesh men’s team in various coaching roles.
