Tigresses’ squad named for Commonwealth Games Qualifier

Star Sports Report

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday announced the national women's T20I squad for the ICC Commonwealth Games Qualifier in Malaysia.

Bangladesh are among the five teams set to fight for a single spot to qualify for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held in Birmingham from July this year. Seven teams, including hosts England, have already qualified for the Games where women's Twenty20 cricket is one of the disciplines.

The Nigar Sultana Joty-led side will depart for Kuala Lumpur today evening and will have to undergo a seven-day quarantine period before the Tigresses can begin training on January 16 and play a warm-up game against Malaysia on January 17.

In a press release, women's team selector Monjurul Islam informed: "We have a balanced squad for this competition and players have been picked according to some specific criteria we have set. I think this event is also a good stage to give opportunities to some emerging talent as we need to plan for the future as well."

Bangladesh will kick off the five-nation qualifiers by taking on Kenya on January 18 at BST 11:15am. The Tigresses will then play against Malaysia, Scotland and Sri Lanka on January 19, 23 and 24, respectively.
