Former Bangladesh captain and current BCB president Tamim Iqbal has been inducted as an Honorary Life Member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

New Zealand women's cricket greats Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine, Australia's Mel Jones and India's Cheteshwar Pujara have also been awarded the honour.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to receive Honorary Life Membership in 2023. The honour had previously been bestowed on former BCB president Saber Hossain Chowdhury and former BCB general secretary Raisuddin Ahmed.

"Tamim becomes one of a select number from Bangladesh to be awarded Honorary Life Membership of the Club and is one of the country's most celebrated cricketers," MCC said in a press release on Sunday.

Tamim is the youngest person to have assumed the role of BCB president in Bangladesh's cricket history.

The left-handed opener has amassed more than 5,000 Test runs since making his debut in 2008 and is second on Bangladesh's all-time list of Test run-scorers.

He is also one of only a handful of Bangladeshi cricketers to feature on the Honours Boards at Lord's, having scored a century against England there in 2010.

Founded in 1787, MCC is recognised as the guardian of the Laws of Cricket. The club has approximately 18,350 Full Members and 6,000 Associate Members.

MCC Chief Executive and Secretary Rob Lawson said: "We are delighted to welcome five fantastic cricketers as our newest Honorary Life Members.

"Each of them is richly deserving of the recognition for their lifelong dedication to the game. We look forward to welcoming them to Lord's as MCC Members in the years to come."
