Tamim ‘definitely an inspiration’, says Tanzid

Star Sports Report

Tanzid Hasan Tamim appears determined to fill in the big shoes at the opening slot for Bangladesh after making the cut in Bangladesh's Asia Cup squad, with the World Cup looming in the horizon.

Namesake Tamim Iqbal's injury allowed Tanzid's entry to the squad and the 22-year-old expressed the influence Tamim had on him during developmental years.

"Look, I've been hearing this for a long time. To be honest, I grew up watching him play. I got inspired to watch the game as his name was similar to mine. This is why I watched the game more since childhood. He is an idol for me, for everyone," Tanzid told reporters in a press conference today.

"I try to learn a lot by watching his game, how he controls everything and plays in any situation. Definitely an inspiration. When we meet, we talk about everything."

Tanzid reckons the Tigers' opening spot is as important as the rest of the batting positions.

"Of course, it [being Tamim's replacement] holds importance. Not only my spot but every spot is important for respective players. So I will try to give my best and keep the place," added Tanzid.
