State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque inspected the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) and the Sylhet District Stadium today as part of the lead-up to the nationwide launch of the Notun Kuri Sports programme, scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on April 30.

“At the SICS, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director Rahat Shams briefed the State Minister on existing challenges in organising local cricket events,” the BCB said in a press release.

“He highlighted the need for additional infrastructure, including the development of an adjacent ground to support increased cricketing activities, construction of a dormitory and swimming pool and the establishment of indoor training facilities for local players,” it further read.

During his visit, the State minister emphasised the need for co-ordination among stakeholders at all levels for the successful execution of the Notun Kuri Sports initiative.

“He [Aminul] underscored several priority areas, including making local fields playable year-round, preparing an integrated annual sports calendar, improving green gallery conditions through proper grass plantation and maintenance, and ensuring the organising regular local cricket tournaments.

“He also stressed the need to enhance spectator facilities, particularly in the outer stadium galleries, to create a more inclusive and engaging environment for sports enthusiasts,” the statement further read.
