Shanto hits fifty after 61-run stand with Shakib

Star Sports Report

Despite a cautious start, Bangladesh have stayed well in contention to chase a daunting 320 in 45 overs in the rain-curtailed second and penultimate ODI against hosts Ireland in Chelmsford on Friday.

The Tigers, 135 for three after 22 overs, would rely on in-form Najmul Hossain Shanto to play a similar role as centurion Harry Tector did earlier today. The southpaw has hit six fours and a six to score his fourth ODI fifty, all registered this year.

Update: Bangladesh are 162 for three after 25 overs, with Shanto and Towhid Hridoy unbeaten on 79 and 24, respectively.

From an underwhelming 40 for two in the tenth over, the Tigers brought up their hundred in the 17th over -- courtesy of Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan's 61-run stand off 47 balls. However, as the third-wicket partnership promised big, Shakib fell to a Curtis Campher delivery as the ace all-rounder's chip shot found George Dockrell straight at point.

Dockrell took an easier catch this time around after his catch led to the dismissal of Tamim Iqbal (7). Earlier, Liton Das departed for a run-a-ball 21.
