Nazmul Hassan bags highest votes as Mashud, Fahim lose big
There were no surprises in the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) Board of Directors' election today as Nazmul Hassan was among the 12 directors elected in Category-2 while the only two big-name casualties were former Bangladesh skipper Khaled Mashud and prominent cricket coach Najmul Abedeen Fahim as they lost in their debut election campaign.
Hassan bagged 53 votes -- joint highest with Gazi Golam Mortuza and Enayet Hossain -- out of 57 voters from Category-2.
Elected by the club representatives, the 11 other elected directors for the upcoming term are: Gazi Golam Mortuza, Najib Ahmed, Mahbub Anam, Obed Nijam, Salauddin Chowdhury, Ismail Haider Mollick, Enayet Hossain, Monjur Kader, Monjur Alam, Fahim Sinha and Iftekhar Rahman.
Meanwhile, contesting from the Rajshahi Division for the first time, former Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mashud lost by 7-2 votes to Saiful Alam Chowdhury Swapan, who was re-elected as a director.
In category three, former Bangladesh skipper Khaled Mahmud won by 37-3 votes against former BCB game development manager and prominent coach Najmul Abedeen Fahim, who also contested for the first time.
The results, however, were announced unofficially. The newly elected directors will exercise their voting rights to elect the new president of the board tomorrow.
