India-Bangladesh series faces fresh scheduling clash

India’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh has been thrown into further uncertainty after Cricbuzz reported that the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has confirmed the dates for a three-match T20I series against India in New Delhi.

According to the report, the ACB said the matches will be played on September 13, 15 and 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agreeing to the dates.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had earmarked September 1 to 13 for the six-match white-ball series, with India expected to arrive in Dhaka on August 28.

However, the Afghanistan series now overlaps with the BCB’s proposed window, creating further uncertainty over the India-Bangladesh series.

With less than three weeks remaining before the proposed dates, the Bangladesh tour appears increasingly unlikely unless there is a last-minute directive from the governments of the two countries.

“It is being worked on at the ministerial level,” State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque said late Monday, adding that discussions were ongoing between the foreign ministers of the two countries.

India last toured Bangladesh for a bilateral series in 2022, when they won the two-Test series 2-0, while Bangladesh won the three-match ODI series 2-1.
