Hemp takes charge of Tigresses ahead of Australia tour
David Hemp has been appointed head coach of Bangladesh’s women’s national cricket team, with the 55-year-old beginning his two-year tenure during the Tigresses’ upcoming ODI tour of Australia.
Hemp will join the squad in Brisbane ahead of the three-match Women’s Championship series, which begins on October 9. His contract runs until September 2028.
He replaces Sarwar Imran, who had been in charge of the women’s national team since February 2025.
The appointment gives Hemp another opportunity to work with the Bangladesh women’s side after already being involved with the team this year. He served as batting coach during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Nepal and was also part of the coaching staff for the Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan in 2025.
Hemp has been part of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s coaching structure since May 2023, when he took charge of the High Performance programme. He was subsequently appointed batting coach of the men’s national team in 2024, having previously worked with the side during their tour of New Zealand in 2023.
The former Bermudian batter also brings considerable experience of women’s cricket. He was head coach of the Pakistan women’s national team from 2020 to 2022 and has previously coached Victoria Women and Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League.
His first assignment comes against Australia, with Bangladesh preparing for their first-ever bilateral ODI series in the country.
