Emon ruled out of PSL

Bangladesh opener Parvez Hossain Emon has been ruled out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to a shoulder injury, which also casts a shadow over his participation in the national team’s home T20I series against New Zealand later this month.

“Parvez sustained the injury following an on-field collision with Asif Ali during the match against Multan Sultans at Gaddafi Stadium on April 3. Subsequent MRI scans confirmed a ligament tear, and he has been advised to undergo a period of rest and rehabilitation over the coming weeks,” said Lahore Qalandars -- Emon’s team in the PSL -- in a press release today.

“Following a careful assessment, it has been decided to release him from the squad, with a replacement to be announced in due course,” it further read.

Emon is a regular member in Bangladesh’s T20I setup. He was issued a No Objection Certificate by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the PSL till April 21, to presumably have him return for the T20I series against the Kiwis, beginning on April 27.

But the injury casts doubt over whether the left-hander would recover in time for the New Zealand series.

This was Emon’s maiden stint at the PSL, and he scored 71 runs in three outings at a strike rate of 161.36, which included a 19-ball 45 against Multan.

He is set to leave for Bangladesh tonight.
