Dhumketu outclass Duronto in Odommo T20 Cup opener

Star Sports Report

Half-centuries from captain Litton Das and Saif Hassan after a three-wicket haul from leg-spinner Rishad Hossain powered Dhumketu XI to a comfortable six-wicket win over Duronto XI in the opening match of the three-team Odommo Bangladesh T20 Cup at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.

Fielding first, Dhumketu pacers Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Hasan Sakib claimed two wickets each but the Big Bash League-returned Rishad stole the show, taking 3-21 in his four overs, as Duronto XI were bundled out for 143 in 19.5 overs.

For Duronto, which is formed with young emerging cricketers, opener Mahfijul Islam top-scored with 39 off 36 balls while none of the others managed to cross the 20-run mark.

In reply, Litton hit an unbeaten 65 off 43 balls, an innings adorned with 10 fours, while opener Saif hit an entertaining 50 off 30 deliveries as Dhumketu cruised to 146-4 in just 16.1 overs.

All-rounder SM Meherob picked up 3-23 with his off-spin for Duronto XI, but the youngsters were no match for Dhumketu, formed from Bangladesh’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which Bangladesh will miss after a standoff with the ICC over its refusal to play matches in India and a rejected request to relocate fixtures.

Dhumketu will next play Durbar XI on Friday at the same venue.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) organised this three-team event for the players after Bangladesh missed out on the T20 World Cup, set to begin on Saturday in India and Sri Lanka.
