Bangladesh regain confidence after Shakib threw away his wicket

Star sports report

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan often leads by example but today was not the case as the ace all-rounder gifted India his wicket on the first delivery after Lunch on the opening day of the Dhaka Test.

The Tigers are at 130 for three after 40.3 overs, with Mominul Haque (41 not out) and Mushfiqur Rahim (26 not out) looking at ease in the middle.

Update: Mushfiqur departs right after drinks break. Jaydev Unadkat picks his second wicket, gets a nick off him with superb delivery -- one that held its line from short of good length instead of angling in to the right-hander.  Bangladesh 131 for four. Liton Das joins Mominul in the middle.

Earlier, The Tigers had staged a mini recovery through Shakib and Mominul Haque following the dismissals of openers in the span of four deliveries earlier in the morning session. From 39 for no loss to 39 for two, Bangladesh would have been relieved to have ended the opening session at 82 for two.

However, Shakib could not resist the temptation to punch a good length delivery from Umesh Yadav, who had bowled impressively in the previous session but had remained wicket-less, only to get caught out, on 16, at mid-on. The Indian players were celebrating, laughing almost hysterically, as the Bangladesh captain made an agonising walk back to the dressing room.

From then on, Bangladesh have enjoyed the most comfortable run of proceedings with two of their better Test batters – Mushfiqur and Mominul – approaching a fifty partnership without giving much encouragement to India's bowlers.
