Mominul joins 5,000-run club as Bangladesh take lead to 179

Star Sports Report

Experienced Bangladesh batter Mominul Haque entered the elite club of batters with 5,000 Test runs after scoring a half-century on the fourth day of the first Test against Pakistan national cricket team at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.

Although Mominul did not last long after the milestone, Bangladesh reached 152 for three at stumps, extending the lead to 179 runs going into the fifth day.  Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was batting on 58 with Mushfiqur Rahim on 10.

Mominul had reached the milestone in style, lunging forward to sweep Noman Ali behind square leg for a boundary. The shot also brought up his fifty, marking his fifth consecutive half-century in Tests. He became only the third Bangladesh batter after Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim to cross the 5,000-run mark in the format.

After early setbacks, Mominul and Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto rebuilt the innings with a 105-run partnership for the third wicket. Mominul was eventually dismissed for 56 by pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Mushfiqur then joined Shanto at the crease after the skipper completed his own half-century. Shanto remained unbeaten on 50 as Bangladesh moved to 129 for 3 after play resumed following rain, extending their lead to 156 runs.

Shanto, Mominul steady Bangladesh before rain halts play

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and experienced batter Mominul Haque continued their fine form as Bangladesh recovered from early setbacks to set a challenging target for Pakistan in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.

The hosts resumed the day at seven without loss but soon slipped to 23 for two within 12 overs. Shanto, who had struck a century in the first innings, then joined Mominul to stabilise the innings.

Shanto was batting on 34 while Mominul, who had scored 91 in the first innings, remained unbeaten on 37. Bangladesh reached 93 for two at Lunch, extending their lead to 120 runs.

However, dark clouds gathered during the interval before heavy rain swept across Mirpur, delaying the resumption of play and raising concerns over the remainder of the second session.

Bangladesh lose two early wickets on Day 4

Bangladesh had a difficult start on the fourth morning of the first Test against Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium today, losing two early wickets in their second innings.

They resumed the day at 7 without loss but soon slipped to 23 for 2 in 12 overs, extending their overall lead to 50 runs.

Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy was dismissed for 5 runs off 26 balls, trapped lbw by Mohammad Abbas after misjudging a delivery that nipped back in and struck him on the front pad. The decision stood despite a review, as it was given umpire’s call.

Soon after, Shadman Islam was dismissed for 10 runs when he edged a rising delivery from Hasan Ali. The ball took the shoulder of the bat and was safely taken by Saud Shakeel at gully, with the extra bounce on the pitch causing trouble for the batter.
