Tanvir stars in Sylhet's rout of Rajshahi
Sohail Tanvir's all-round performance ensured a whopping 76-run victory for the Sylhet Sixers against the Rajshahi Kings in the first match of the Chattogram phase of the sixth edition of Bangladesh Premier League at the Zahur aAhmed Chowdhury Stadium today.
Being sent in to bat, After debutant Jason Roy made his first BPL appearance memorable by top-scoring for the side with his 28-ball 42-run knock, it was Tanvir's late cameo of 23 runs off 10 balls that made sure the franchise ended on a high with a challenging score of 180 for the loss of six wickets on the board. Tanvir also shone with the ball later, scalping three wickets for 17 runs in his four-over spell as Sylhet bundled out Rajshahi for just 104 runs in 18.2 overs.
In chase of the challenging total, Rajshahi suffered a batting collapse as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Right-hander Fazle Mahmud's fifty off 41 balls was the only highlight of the Kings' innings as only two of their other batsmen managed a double-figure score.
Apart from the star of the day, Sylhet's Tanvir, left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz and pacer Taskin Ahmed took three and two wickets respectively to contribute to their side's triumph on the day.
Sylhet's third win from nine games lift them from the bottom of the table, where Khulna Titans are now the soul occupants.
