‘I thought it was a marriage proposal’

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan was interrupted by a pitch invader in the first session of the second day's play in Chattogram today. Shakib, who was offered a bouquet by the intruder, said jokingly that he thought he was getting a marriage proposal.

The incident took place midway through the 107th over of Afghanistan's first innings. Shakib was about to bowl the fourth delivery when suddenly an invader climbed the barbed wire fence of the West Gallery and ran towards the premier all-rounder, only to get down on one knee and offer the flowers to Shakib.

Later, when Shakib talked about this incident, said that he had thought he was getting a marriage proposal.

"He just asked me to accept the flowers. I thought he was making a marriage proposal," said Shakib with a smile during the post-day press conference in Chattogram.

Even though Shakib had accepted the flowers -- after the intruder's third attempt -- he however said that he does not want a repeat of such events in future, keeping in mind the safety issues.

"I don't want this type of things to happen. Actually it is better if this type of event does not take place in the ground at all." concluded Shakib.
