'I can work on problems if selectors point them out'
Comilla Victorians skipper Imrul Kayes was a happy camper as his side registered an 80-run victory over bottom-placed Khulna Titans after posting a mammoth 237 for five -- the second highest total in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) history -- at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
There was however a dark cloud as Imrul, who did not make it to Bangladesh's squad for the upcoming New Zealand tour, said at the post-match press-conference that it would be helpful for him if the selectors pinpointed his shortcomings so that he could work on it and make a stronger statement in the future.
Imrul scored 349 runs for the Tigers in the ODI series against Zimbabwe -- the most by a Bangladesh batsman in a three-match series -- at home in October last year. However, he could score only four and zero in the first two ODIs of the next home series against West Indies in December and was eventually dropped for the third ODI. The left-hander might count himself unlucky for not making the Tigers' ODI squad for New Zealand just after two bad innings.
Imrul, however, said that even he does not expect to make the squad for the next series after doing well in the previous one.
"I have been playing like this for the past 10 years, as I have to. Even I don't know if I would play the next series after playing well in one, and I do not expect it as well. I always keep myself mentally prepared to play well for the national side whenever I get a chance."
The left-hander also said that it would be easy for him if the selectors would pinpoint his mistakes.
"If they [selectors] clear it up [areas for improvement] then I can work on that. I can work better. I think it is better for me to know the reasons why I am not included in the team. I don't know, I think for the sake of team combination it was thought that I would not be needed for the same position. Probably that is the reason why I am not in their minds."
