Two years, nine teams, 27 series, 71 Test Matches
The ICC has officially launched the inaugural World Test Championship today and the championship is slated to begin from August 1 2019. The top nine teams will compete in 71 Test matches across 27 Test series over a period of two years.
How it will work?
- Each team will play three home and three away Test series
- The number of matches in each series can vary between a minimum of two matches to a maximum of five matches.
- Each team plays six series, with each series counting for 120 points, distributed over the number of matches in a series. If a team plays a two-match Test series, each Test will be attributed 60 points.
- Not all Tests will count towards the championships but only the ones identified as such.
