MOMENTS
Fiery Mash
Tigers ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza got all charged up when he removed Kusal Mendis, who batted with guns blazing, during their tri-series final encounter yesterday. Mendis had earlier struck three sixes and a four to take 24 runs off Mehedi Hasan Miraz in fifth over and this perhaps irked Mashrafe. Mendis went for a pull in the last ball of the sixth over on a rather lengthy delivery from Mashrafe but could only chip it straight into the hands of the mid-on fielder. Mashrafe was so pumped after that that he ran up and directed some heated words at the departing right-hand batsman.
Dickwella's painful scoop
Niroshan Dickwella's shot manufacturing led to a painful blow when the left-hander opted for a paddle scoop off Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza in the fourth ball of the seventh over. It was a horrible shot selection by Dickwella to a back-of-a-length delivery well outside off-stump when the batsman walked across and got down on his knees. The length did not allow Dickwella to make contact, rather the ball shot up and hit his chest.
Reverse-swept for six
Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal devised a strategy to unsettle Shakib Al Hasan after the left-arm spinner came in to attack in the 25th over. It was the last ball of the 33rd over when the right-hander quickly switched position to realign and launch a powerful reverse sweep for six over long-leg. Tamim Iqbal did not take the unconventional strike lying down though as he exchanged a few words with Chandimal at the end of the over.
Madushanka's hattrick on debut
It was a dream debut for Sri Lankan fast bowler Shehan Madushanka as the right-arm seamer went on to bag a hattrick in the final. Sri Lanka's inclusion of the fast bowler came as a surprise but the 22-year-old definitely proved his worth. Despite remaining wicketless in his first four overs, Madushanka picked up the wickets of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Rubel Hossain consecutively with the last two balls of the 40th over. The youngster kept his cool during the hattrick delivery on the first ball of the very next over as he dismissed Mahmudullah, who attempted to clear the circle but ended up handing a catch at extra cover, to kick off the double celebration of winning the series and scoring his hattrick.
