Rafi Hossain: Selim Bhai, how has the pandemic affected your work?

Rafi Hossain: How did you get associated with the Tower Hamlet’s Season of Bangla Drama?

This is a very special film. I was able to see life from a different perspective through it. A chance to play such an amazing character doesn’t come often, so I consider this as a big achievement.

I can’t describe myself in just three words. But, I would say I’m emotional, sensitive, full of life and moody.

Can you describe yourself in three words?

Rafi Hossain: Thank you for giving us time, Mim. Are you currently very busy with the promotion of your film, ‘Shapludu’?

Tell us something about yourself. The answer to that is very complicated. I would say I’m just someone searching for something. I don’t know what that thing is though, as of now.

I don’t quite know what to say about myself. I’m a Bangladeshi – that is my identity. I studied sculpting at Charukola Institute of Dhaka University. I started theatre with a group, named Prachyanat. I’ve directed three films and several TV dramas. I’m currently working on both, along with writing my own novels. I’ve already published two of those. I also write short stories sometimes.

What is your style mantra? I would say my style mantra is to dress confidently.

My career began with music videos. Then I started doing musical programmes for ATN. One was an Eid programme where the focus was on music and poetry. Another was on Pan music. I also had to communicate with several agencies for sponsors for my

In the year 1988, we formed a band called Sudden consisting of 5 members. We released our debut album Achena in 1990 and the audience really liked it. I would say, this was the beginning of my musical career and I have not stopped doing music ever since.

I would have to say I am balanced, passionate and a hard worker.

Well, when I was young, my father would often bring the chocolates like Kit-Kat or Perk. From the top of my head, that would have to be my favourite childhood memory.

I’m a photographer. I work in different sectors, like glamour, fashion, corporate and advertising photography among others, because I believe that I need to be diverse to explore my potential.
