Rules not followed in recording statement of accused: Faridpur senior judicial magistrate apologises to HC

Star Online Report

Senior Judicial Magistrate of Faridpur Md Mainul Islam has apologised unconditionally to the High Court for not properly following relevant rules in recording confessional statements from three accused in school student Antor murder case

Mainul Islam appeared before the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman today in line with its September 16 order and offered unconditional apology and expressed his grief in writing.

After accepting the apology, the bench exempted the senior judicial magistrate from appearing personally before this court any more in connection with the issue.

The HC bench also granted six months' ad-interim bail to two of the accused of the case -- Azizul Sheikh and Ashraf Sheikh -- for six months and fixed November 19 for further hearing on this issue, Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi told The Daily Star today.

On September 16, the HC bench summoned Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Mainul Islam, directing him to appear before it on October 8 and asked him to explain why he recorded confusing confessional statements from the three accused within a very short period and without giving them adequate time.
