Regent Group MD’s brother-in-law, driver sent to jail in drug possession case
A Dhaka court today rejected a bail petition of two accused, including brother-in-law of Regent Group Managing Director Masud Parvez, and sent them to jail in a case filed over possession of 2,110 pieces of Yaba pills and 10 bottles of phensidyl.
The accused are: Giausuddin Jalali (61), brother-in-law of Parvez of Bancharampur in Brahmanbaria, and his driver Mahmudul Hassan (40), of Jajirain Shariatpur.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahjadi Tahmida passed the order after Sub-Inspector Md Kamruzzaman of Ashulia Police Station and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced them before his court on expiry of their one-day remand.
In the forwarding report, the IO said the arrestees gave vital clues about recovery if the Yaba tablets. He appealed to the court to keep them in jail until the investigation is completed, the IO added.
On the other hand, the defence submitted a petition seeking bail claiming their clients to be innocent.
After hearing both sides, the magistrate turned down the bail petition of the accused and sent them to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
Earlier on Thursday, Rapid Action Battalion arrested the duo from a house in Narsinghapur area of Ashulia and seized around 2,110 pieces of Yaba tablets and 10 bottles of phensidyl from their possessions.
Later,a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against them with Ashulia Police Station.
