Quantity-obsessed education authority
Matin's pivotal article in your editorial page (1st. October) discusses a serious and vital issue of Bangladesh. The remarks of our education minister on “faulty test system” reminds us of the popular
Bangla saying: “Nachtey na janley uthan banka (A bad workman quarrels with his tools).”
Our authorities are concerned about the numbers of students that pass SSC, HSC, and the equivalent exams every year; but they don't care whether students are getting quality education or not. Quantity is important to them, not quality. That's why we had to see this unfortunate situation that only two students could qualify enrolment in the English department of DU!
