The High Court today wanted information on the steps taken by the government to contain an outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

The court asked Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Abdullah-Al-Mahmud Bashar to gather information from the director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and submit in court by Monday.

The DG of DGHS has been asked to say whether the government has provided adequate equipment to prevent a coronavirus outbreak and test people for it at the ports in the country.

The DG has also been asked to inform the court on whether the government has taken steps to spread awareness among people on the virus.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order on a suo moto move, following a news report published at Bangla daily The Prothom Alo today on the risk of coronavirus outbreak in the country.

Advocate Ishrat Hasan, a lawyer of the Supreme Court, placed the newspaper report before the HC bench for necessary order.
