Workers Party for law in line with constitution

Workers Party of Bangladesh today proposed President Abdul Hamid to enact a law in line with the constitution on forming the new Election Commission.

The party came up with the proposal while holding talks with the president at Bangabhaban in Dhaka this afternoon on formation of a new Election Commission, said Workers Party Chief Rashed Khan Menon after the talks.

A 10-member delegation led by Menon, also the civil aviation minister, met the president around 4:00pm.

This is the fifth political party that sat with the president.

Earlier, the president sat with BNP on December 18, Jatiya Party on December 20, LDP and Krishak Sramik Janata League on December 22 and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu) on December 26 over formation of the new EC.

The tenure of the current EC, led by Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, expires in February next year.

President Hamid is also scheduled to sit with Bangladesh Nationalist Front and Islami Oikya Jote on December 29, Jatiya Party (Manju) on January 2, and Tarikat Federation and Bangladesh Jatiya Party, a component of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, on January 3, sources in the Bangabhaban said.
