President welcomes BNP's proposal
President Abdul Hamid today welcomed BNP’s proposal for formation of search committee and the election commission saying it will be helpful for reconstituting the Election Commission.
“Today’s discussion is very important for democracy. Discussion shows multidimensional path toward resolution,” the president said in a press statement hours after talks with BNP.
His press statement came after meeting an 11-member BNP delegation, led by party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, over reconstitution of the Election Commission.
During the hour-long meeting, the president also sought cooperation from different political parties to make the efforts a success, the press statement said.
The BNP delegation included: Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Mahbubur Rahman, Jamiruddin Sircar, Rafiqul Islam Miah, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
Sampad Barua, secretary of the president’s office, Maj Gen Sarwar Hossain, military secretary to the president, and his press secretary Joynal Abedin were also present at the meeting.
