To PM, not president, B Chy advises BNP
Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury today advised BNP to deal with the prime minister instead of the president to meet the demand for formation of an independent and nonpartisan election commission.
“I was a president and thus I know presidential power on formation of the Election Commission is limited. So we should talk with the prime minister to reach a decision in this regard,” Badruddoza Chowdhury said at a pregramme in Dhaka this afternoon.
Holding of a free and fair election is impossible until it is conducted under an impartial government, B Chowdhury said adding that “election commission is worthless without a neutral government”.
“We should try to hold an impartial election time government. If it is not possible, we can at least try to reach as close to the demand as possible,” he added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had previously proposed BNP to take part in the all-party polls-time government but the party denied, he said.
Now BNP can talk with the government about something similar towards holding a free and fair election in the near future, he added.
