Awami League Presidium Member Syed Ashraful Islam today said that none will come out of the cantonment to put BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in power.

“Election is the main tool to come to the state power. None will come out of the cantonment with a military convoy to put you (Khaleda) in the citadel of power,” he said while addressing a rally in Dhaka.

The rally was organised by Dhaka south unit of Awami League marking the third anniversary of January 5 national elections, that the party has dubbed “the day democracy triumphed.”

Asking Khaleda what she got after boycotting the January 5, 2014, election, Ashraful said, “Boycotting election in a democratic country is a very lamentable matter.”

Claiming that there is no history of Awami League to boycott election, Ashraful also former general secretary of Awami League, said BNP does not want a democratic system in the country and thus it boycotts election frequently.

He said there is no need of army or caretaker government in the country for holding a general election as the country is being run in a democratic manner successfully.
