N’ganj district council member wins through lottery
Nayaranganj district council today picked up a member through lottery after two candidates bagged same number of votes in the yesterday’s election.
Awami League aspirant Md Faruk Hossain Bhuiyan won the lottery for the member post in Ward No 8 of Sonargaon upazila in the district, reports a local correspondent.

Returning Officer Rabbi Mia, also the deputy commissioner, announced the result at his office this morning.
“In consent with both candidates, we arranged the lottery system where Faruk Hossain won,” Rabbi said.
Earlier, former Bangladesh Chhatra League member Abu Nayeem Iqbal and his contestant Faruk Hossain got 20 votes each in the yesterday’s district council election.

The first ever district councils election was held yesterday. The ruling Awami League-backed chairman candidates suffered defeat at the hands of their party rebels in about a third of the 38 zila parishads amid boycott by the BNP and the main opposition Jatiya Party.
