BNP-led 20-party alliance coordinator Col (retd) Oli Ahmed has cast doubt on the sustainability of the alliance under the “government’s repression”.

“It might not be possible for us to stay in election if the government repression is not stopped,” said Oli Ahmed, also chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party.

While addressing a press conference at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka this evening, he said people of different government agencies along with the ruling party men are engaged in raiding houses of the alliance leaders and activists across the country.

They also arresting the opposition party men in politically motivated and fictitious cases, he alleged.

He said the much-talked–about level-playing filed and congenial atmosphere ahead of the upcoming general election have yet not yet been ensured due to the repressive acts.

He claimed that many leaders of the alliance have been arrested after submission of their nomination papers while many of them have been sent to the jail.

Besides, the Election Commission has cancelled nominations of many candidates of the alliance aspirants. “The Election Commission is doing this to vacate the election field,” he alleged.
