Need neutral polls-time govt: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the Election Commission would not be able to work neutrally and independently without a neutral polls-time government.
Speaking at a programme in Dhaka, Fakhrul said BNP hopes the government will assist and play its due role in the president’s initiative to form a strong and independent Election Commission.
“The present political crisis will not be resolved without a free, fair and inclusive national election. We hope the government will consider the matter and will take measure to hold an acceptable national election,” he said.
He was addressing at the central general council of Khelafat Majlish, a component in the BNP-led 20-party alliance at the city’s Mohanagar Natya Mancha.
In his speech, Fakhrul said a strong and independent Election Commission is a must for ensuring fair polls. “We, therefore, hope good sense will prevail and the government will assist to form a strong EC.”
He called upon the government to restore democracy in the country through holding national election under a non-party administration.
