NCC polls: BNP now demands judicial probe

Star Online Report

Happy yesterday over voting in the Narayanganj city election, BNP today demanded judicial probe to investigate vote rigging in the polls that saw ruling Awami League candidate’s win.

Rizvi Ahmed, BNP senior joint secretary general, made the demand at a press conference at party’s Nayapaltan central office this morning.

He said presence of voters were thin as army was not deployed during the election.

In the briefing, Rizvi also said the election commission should seriously look into the allegation raised by BNP nominated mayoral candidate Shakhawat Hossain that subtle rigging took place in the NCC polls.

Narayanganj city yesterday re-picked Selina Hayat Ivy, Awami League’s candidate, for a second term mayor – a vote that was said to be “a model of fair elections”. Her victory was a landslide win.

Opposing candidate Shakhawat Hossain was happy with the voting, but claimed of “subtly vote rigging” during the counting of votes.
