My proposal can be basis for talks: Khaleda

Star Online Report

In the face of huge criticism from the ruling Awami League, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today said that her proposed plan over the formation of a new election commission could be a basis for talks on holding a free and fair election.

Khaleda Zia made the remark in a post on her twitter account this afternoon.

In her twitter message, Khaleda said, “I presented a plan for an effective and neutral election commission. The ruling party can take the opportunity for talks based on the proposal if they (government) want an inclusive election.”

Khaleda Zia said that she would also unveil a framework for a neutral polls-time government.

With a call for forming the next Election Commission on the basis of "consensus" among all political parties, Khaleda yesterday rolled out a 13-point proposal for its formation.

Reacting to the proposal, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader termed it as devoid of substance saying it is nothing but a mockery before the nation.

“Khaleda Zia’s demand for a search committee is hollow and ridiculous,” Quader said.
