Last 2 of 4 'missing' Gaibandha leaders return

The last two of four political leaders of Awami League and BNP who went “missing” from Gaibandha on January 9 and 10, returned today.

Maidul Islam Prince, 30, publication secretary of Awami League, Naldanga union; and Shafiul Islam Shapla, 32, assistant secretary of Jubo Dal, Naldanga union, returned to their village home in Sadullapur upazila this morning, our Gaibandha correspondent reports quoting Prince.

Unidentified men in plainclothes left the duo on a road in Kholahati area in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur around 2:30am, Prince said.

Farhad Imrul Kayes, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadullapur Police Station, said they have not heard about it yet.

The four local political leaders: Monwarul Hassan Jim, 40, senior vice-president of Sadullapur upazila Jubo League and former chairman of Damodarpur union, Sadequl Islam Sadeq, 35, former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Damodarpur union; Prince and Shapla went missing from Jan 9-10.

On Jan 19, Jim and Sadeq returned.

Some eight to ten plainclothes people waylaid Sadeq and Jim when the duo was moving towards Naldanga at Lalbazar on a motorbike on Jan 10.

Before they could sense anything, the plainclothes men picked them up and boarded a microbus parked there, Sadeq told reporters.
