Ivy, Shamim meet PM

Awami League nominated mayoral candidate for Narayanganj City Corporation Selina Hayat Ivy and its lawmaker Shamim Osman today met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Ivy, also the incumbent mayor of NCC, and Shamim met Hasina, the president of ruling AL, at her official residence Gono Bhaban in Dhaka this evening.

The meeting was held to “minimise distance” between the two AL influential leaders ahead of the city corporation election, a source at the Gono Bhaban told The Daily Star seeking anonymity.

Awami League wants to bag mayoral post in the city by holding a free and fair election, he said.

The prime minister earlier asked them to meet her to discuss the prevailing situation in Narayanganj city, the source added.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader was also pressed at the meeting, the source said.
