Minister Mosharraf told to surrender
The High Court today asked Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain to surrender before a lower court in six weeks in a case filed for amassing wealth worth Tk 3 crore.
The High Court bench Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain passed the order after rejecting a petition filed by Mosharraf challenging legality of the proceedings of the corruption case.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Ramna Police Station on November 25, 2007 against Mosharraf on charge of amassing Tk 3 crore wealth and concealing information, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.
Following the petition of Mosharraf, the HC stayed the case proceedings and granted bail to him in the case, Lawyer Khurshid said. Now, the ACC has been given the go ahead with the case’s proceedings.
Today, Mosharraf’s lawyer Abdul Matin Khasru told the HC that his client will not proceed with the petition. Then the HC rejected his petition and directed him to surrender before the lower court.
