Govt to extend all-out support to EC: Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said that his government will extend all-out support to the Election Commission (EC) so that it can play an independent role in arranging election in a fair and credible manner.

“We will provide our all-out cooperation so that the Election Commission can work independently,” Quader said while talking to reporters at his secretariat office in Dhaka this noon.

Earlier, Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges minister, held a meeting with US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat.

Calling upon BNP to come out of its negative attitudes towards the EC, Quader said the party has made a mistake as it did not take part in the previous general election.

“I believe BNP will not do the same mistake,” he told a questioner.

Besides, US Ambassador Stephens Bloom Marcia Bernicat told the journalists that the new Election Commission will have to gain people’s trust in its activities.
