Forge consensus to protect independence, sovereignty: Khaleda

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today called upon the countrymen to forge a national consensus to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty from the grip of hegemonic forces.

This very evil force has been destroying the country’s hard-earned independence by ignoring people’s opinion through holding a stage-manage election on January 5, 2014, Khaleda said in a message on the occasion of Victory Day tomorrow.

“Hegemonic forces are still engaged in hatching efforts to destroy our independence and sovereignty intending to make us a submissive nation. We will have to forge a national consensus to get rid of the situation,” she said.

Now there is no civic right of people, Khaleda alleged saying that the country has been plunged into a “dangerous anarchical situation due to the government’s cruel acts like killing”.

The people took part in the Liberation War in 1971 with an aim to establish a democratic country, Khaleda said.

“Later, our democracy has got stumbled on its march forward and people’s fundamental human rights have also been snatched again and again,” she said.

The democracy loving people have retrieved the democracy through movement in different times, Khaleda said.

“Under the prevailing circumstance, we will have to forge unity upholding the spirit of the Liberation War,” she said.
