Khaleda in policy meeting over ‘EC formation’
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has sat in a meeting with her policymakers in what is believed to talk over the party’s proposals for the next potential Election Commissioners.
BNP standing committee members took part the meeting that started in the party chief’s Gulshan office around 9:20pm with Khaleda in the chair.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, Tariqul Islam, Abdul Moeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Abbas and Goyeshwar Chandra Roy are among those present in the meeting.
Yesterday, the newly-formed Election Commission search body requested political parties to suggest five names for the appointment of the chief election commissioner and other commissioners.
Later in the day, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said they will submit the names on time. “We are yet to receive the letter from the search committee. We will submit names if we receive it,” he said.
Asked whether they would disclose the names, he said the party would hold a meeting after receiving the letter and would decide about it.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Abdul Hamid formed the six-member search committee headed by Justice Syed Mahmud Hassan for constituting the next EC as the tenure of the current one will expire in February next.
