Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today claimed non-receipt of application from BNP for its rally at Nayapaltan on November 8 and said it will take decision after assessing all security aspects.

“We did not get any application from BNP. We will take decision considering situation, reality and security after receiving their application,” DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told reporters after a programme at Police Staff College in Mirpur area of Dhaka.

On Friday, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said they have sought permission from police for holding the rally in front of its Nayapaltan office to mark “the National Revolution and Solidarity Day” on November 8.

Earlier on Thursday night, DMP said that it will not allow any political party to hold any rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 7 or 8 over "security reasons."

Before seeking permission at Nayapaltan, BNP had sought permission to DMP for holding a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 7 and 8 to mark the day.

Soon after the announcement, the ruling Awami League threatened that it will resist BNP’s programme blaming it for killing many freedom fighters on the day.
