CU asst proctor removed

Chittagong University has removed its assistant proctor Anwar Hossain after he was implicated in a murder case filed over death of Bangladesh Chhatra League activist Diaz Irfan Chowdhury.

Professor Kamrul Huda, the university’s registrar, confirmed the status of Anwar Hossain to our campus correspondent this morning. However, the reason behind the removal could not be known.

On November 24, Diaz’s mother lodged a murder case with a Chittagong court against around 20 people, including Anwar Hossain and CU BCL President Mohammad Alamgir Tipu.

Meanwhile, Chhatra League today put a halt on their strike after the assistant proctor was removed.

“The authorities have accepted one of our demands and have assured us of meeting the others,” said Md Nazimuddin, vice president of Chittagong University Chhatra League unit.

The subsequent suspension of train services on security grounds caused sufferings to students.

Diaz’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his bedroom at his family's rented house at the university's Gate-2 area last week.
