Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today observed that the country’s hard earned democracy is still vulnerable.

“Our democracy has been freed from autocracy but it is still vulnerable to threat,” Obaidul said while addressing a programme on the occasion of Shaheed Noor Hossain Day.

He said effort under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going on to give an institutional shape to democracy.

“But the path is not trouble-free at all as a group of vested quarter is engaged in hatching conspiracy to destroy the effort,” he added.

Motor Shramik League, a front organization of Awami League organised the programme at Institute of Engineers’ Bangladesh on this occasion.

Reckless driving responsible for road accident

Quader also came down heavily on the motor drivers who drive their vehicles recklessly and get crazy for extra trip.

Holding them responsible for frequent road accident in the country, the Awami League leader also encouraged woman in driving profession.

“Women’s head remains cool than the man and thus they (women) can reduce road accident if interested in driving,” he added.

Quader said his government is taking initiatives to engage women in driving profession.

Noor Hossain was gunned down at Zero Point in Gulistan area of Dhaka on November 10, 1987 as he took part in a pro-democracy procession protesting HM Ershad's autocratic regime when a bullet pierced his body.

Later following the incident, the Zero Point was renamed Noor Hossain Chattar (square).
