Country facing human rights crisis: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that the country has been facing a severe crisis of human rights due to the absence of democracy.
“Democracy and human rights are totally absent here though it has been telling that the country is now running in a democratic manner,” Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader was addressing a discussion at Dhaka Reporters' Unity organised by the Jatiyatabadi Help Cell.
The practices of forced disappearance and killing started in 2010 which was totally inhuman and middle-aged barbarism, he said.
He claimed that around a thousand of leaders and activists of BNP were killed and at least five thousand were disappeared during the party’s movement against the ruling Awami League.
Fakhrul again underscored the need for forging unity against militancy and terrorism and said that the government is using the emergence of militancy a political issue intending to hang on to power.
