BNP to hold ‘Solidarity Day’ rally Nov 9
BNP now wants to hold a rally in front of its Nayapaltan central office on November 9 to mark what it calls National Revolution and Solidarity Day if the party is deprived of permission for tomorrow.
“We sought permission to hold the rally tomorrow but didn’t get go-ahead yet. We want to hold the rally at the same place even the permission is given for November 9,” the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said at a press conference at its Nayapaltan headquarters this afternoon.
BNP’s Dhaka city unit and its several associates and front organisations have already prepared for holding the rally in a peaceful manner, Rizvi said.
Drawing attention to the concerned authorities to its plea, the BNP leader said, “We are hopeful of getting the permission.”
Earlier, BNP asked for permission to hold a rally on this occasion at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 7 or 8.
Meanwhile, the ruling Awami League leaders threatened to resist any programme of BNP on that day as the AL sees the day as a day of killing of freedom fighters.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) however announced that no political party would be allowed to hold any rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 7 or 8 over security reasons.
Earlier in the day, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia along with her party’s leaders and activists placed wreaths at the grave of the party founder late president Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka to mark the November 7. [twitter]
