‘AL carried out’ Aug 21 grenade attack: Rizvi

‘Aimed to tarnish Khaleda-led govt in trouble’

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today alleged that “Awami League carried out the August 21 grenade attack” in 2004 to put the then Khaleda Zia-led government in trouble.

He said, “Awami League was asked to hold the rally at Muktangan then why did they hold it in front of their party office suddenly? There is something fishy.”

“Bomb blasted there but she (Hasina) remained safe. We can say your (PM) party men did it to embarrass the then BNP-led government and cash in on people’s sympathy,” he came up with the statement while addressing a programme in Dhaka.

Pro-BNP Jatiyatabadi Ulema Dal organised the doa mahfil at BNP's Nayapaltan central office seeking the early recovery of party chairperson Khaleda Zia who underwent a surgery in her right eye in London recently.

Rizvi alleged that the incident was aimed to tarnish the image of Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman and it exposed.

“It exposed when the party assumed the office and implicated Tarique Rahman with the case through a supplementary chargesheet,” he added.
