BNP protest Hanif’s remarks

UNB, Dhaka

Countering the warning of Awami League Joint Ggeneral Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif over BNP’s programme on January 5, the party today voiced its firm stance on marking its countrywide black flag procession programme a success on that day.

“Our party’s scheduled programme to bring out processions with black flags and wearing black badges in all cities and district towns on January 5 must be held. Our district leaders are taking all-out preparations in coordination with all leaders and activists to make it a success,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, Rizvi also said they will hold rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on January 7, marking the third anniversary of the 10th parliamentary elections as ‘democracy killing day’.

Earlier in the day, Hanif, at a press conference at a joint meeting of Dhaka South city unit Awami League, said people will not allow BNP to take to the streets on January 5. “Those who killed people in the name of foiling elections have no rights to observe any programme.”
