BNP organising unity against militancy: Fakhrul
BNP is already in the process of forging a national unity to fight against terrorism and militancy in the country, the party's secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today.
Khaleda Zia has already called for a national unity against terrorism and militancy, and as part of her efforts, she has begun talks with people from all quarters, he said.
“Our party chief Khaleda Zia will set up the strategy to fight the terrorism and militancy on the basis of the outcomes of the talks,” Fakhrul said.
He made the comment before reporters while visiting ailing BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed at Dhaka’s Square Hospital this morning.
Until far, the ruling Awami League has rejected BNP’s call for a national unity saying it is not possible while BNP stays tagged with its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami, a party that opposed Bangladesh’s liberation.
When asked whether BNP would cut ties with the Jamaat, Fakhrul walked away without comment.
