BNP hopes for independent EC: Rizvi

Star Online Report

The BNP today hoped that an independent election commission will be formed with the consent of all the political parties which will oversee the next general elections.

“People expect a neutral and independent election commission which will be out of government’s influence. It will be a real constitutional institution which will ensure peoples’ voting rights ignoring the government’s ill motive,” Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of the party, said.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters, Rizvi said, “We expect from the president that he will form such an election commission on which all the political parties including the BNP can rely on the new election commission.”

Tenure of the incumbent election commission will be expired on February next year. President has already taken an initiative to hold talks with political parties to form the next election commission which will oversee the next polls.
