BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia met with her party's policymakers this evening to finalise the names to propose to the search committee for constituting the next election commission.

Leaders from the BNP and its alliances took part in the meeting that started at the party chief’s Gulshan office around 9:00pm with Khaleda in the chair, party insiders told The Daily Star.

At a standing committee meeting yesterday, Khaleda asked her party colleagues to place their proposed names, which she was expected to finalise today and send to the committee.

Details of the meeting could not be known yet.

On Saturday, the search panel requested 31 political parties to suggest five names for the appointment of the chief election commissioner and other commissioners by January 31.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Abdul Hamid formed the six-member search committee headed by Justice Syed Mahmud Hassan for constituting the next EC as the tenure of the current one will expire next month.
